Dr. Nora Dagher urges you to get your children vaccinated!

As we head into year number three of coping with COVID, our children are showing more and more psychological issues due to COVID, including increased anxiety, stress, fear, and uncertainty. Many teachers and school administrators are reporting that the educational experience is being disrupted due to COVID. They also say that the clear-cut way to help resolve the issue is through education and getting kids vaccinated.

We spoke with Hamilton Community Health Network’s Nora Dagher, MD, about the importance of vaccinating children against COVID. She explained that getting a COVID vaccine is the best option when it comes to protecting yourself and your children from the disease. The vaccine can protect you from severe illness and death, however, you need both doses and if you’re due for the booster, the booster too.

“Vaccinating your children is as important as vaccinating yourself, a senior or someone with pre-existing health challenges,” said Dagher.

Here are her top 4 reasons why it’s vital to get children vaccinated against COVID:

  1. Helps Stop the Spread. The vaccine protects children from getting the virus and spreading it to not only other children but also more vulnerable groups of people with pre-existing health challenges.
  2. Protects Your Child. Not all children react mildly to the virus. Although most children have mild illness, not all children are the same. This virus has had harsh effects on some children and has even resulted in deaths.
  3. Helps Keep Them Learning. The vaccine helps kids feel more normal in school, and helps to maintain, not hinder, the educational experience.
  4. The Vaccine is Safe. Scientifically tested and proven throughout numerous medical institutions worldwide, the COVID-19 vaccines are the best option for protection from COVID-19.

Dagher commented, “It’s not only a way to protect yourself and your loved ones from illness, but also a way to ease your kids’ minds. Do what you can to keep your children protected physically and mentally from COVID.”
