WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MEDICAID REDETERMINATION
Why is it happening?
When the COVID pandemic started, Congress enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act that provided Medicaid coverage for all beneficiaries, even if someone’s eligibility changed. Now, as the pandemic is ending and Coronavirus becomes less of a threat, everyone who receives Medicaid services must go through a redetermination process.
This process is the regular determination all recipients go through on an annual basis but was on hold throughout the pandemic. The purpose of it is it will determine if you still qualify for Medicaid assistance.
First update your address and contact information in your MI-Bridges account. Then be on the lookout for your redetermination packet in the mail.
Keep in mind, this process will take an entire year and not everyone will receive the packet at the same time.
Get ready to renew now!
Here are some things you can do to prepare for the renewal process:
- Update your contact information - Make sure your state has your current mailing address, phone number, email, or other contact information. This way, they’ll be able to contact you about your Medicaid or CHIP coverage.
- Check your mail - Your state will mail you a letter about your coverage. This letter will let you know if you need to complete a renewal form to see if you still qualify for Medicaid or CHIP.
- Complete your renewal form (if you get one) - Fill out the form and return it to your state right away to help avoid a gap in your coverage.
