MEDICAID CHANGES ARE COMING

Changes to Medicaid are coming in late 2026 and 2027. Some patients will be impacted, but many Medicaid enrollees will not. If these changes apply to you, you will be contacted and notified before you need to act. Hamilton Community Health Network is here to help you understand these changes and what they mean for you.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO RIGHT NOW?

The most important thing you can do today is make sure your contact information is up-to-date. This helps MDHHS reach you if they need to send important information about your Medicaid coverage.

Please make sure your mailing address, phone number and email address are all up-to-date. You can update your information through MI Bridges here.

WHAT CHANGES MAY BE COMING?

Current Medicaid rules are expected to change soon. These changes will require some members to re-enroll every 6 months. The new work requirements will require some members to report the number of hours spent working, volunteering, looking for work or in school or a training program. You may qualify for an exemption to the work requirement. Healthy Michigan will only cover medical bills going back one month for any gap in coverage. Other Medicaid programs will go back 60 days.

Not everyone will be affected in the same way, and many Medicaid members may not be affected at all.

QUESTIONS? WE'RE HERE TO HELP.

If Medicaid changes affect you, you will be notified before you need to take action. Be sure your contact information is current and watch for notices from MDHHS. If you have questions, our enrollment staff can help you understand the changes and what to do next. Call 810-787-5097 and ask to speak to our enrollment staff or leave a message.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MEDICAID REDETERMINATION

Why is it happening?

When the COVID pandemic started, Congress enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act that provided Medicaid coverage for all beneficiaries, even if someone’s eligibility changed. Now, as the pandemic is ending and Coronavirus becomes less of a threat, everyone who receives Medicaid services must go through a redetermination process.

This process is the regular determination all recipients go through on an annual basis but was on hold throughout the pandemic. The purpose of it is it will determine if you still qualify for Medicaid assistance.

First update your address and contact information in your MI-Bridges account. Then be on the lookout for your redetermination packet in the mail.

Keep in mind, this process will take an entire year and not everyone will receive the packet at the same time.

Get ready to renew now!

Here are some things you can do to prepare for the renewal process:

  1. Update your contact information - Make sure your state has your current mailing address, phone number, email, or other contact information. This way, they’ll be able to contact you about your Medicaid or CHIP coverage.
  2. Check your mail - Your state will mail you a letter about your coverage. This letter will let you know if you need to complete a renewal form to see if you still qualify for Medicaid or CHIP.
  3. Complete your renewal form (if you get one) - Fill out the form and return it to your state right away to help avoid a gap in your coverage.

If you have questions, reach out to a Hamilton Community Health Network Certified Application Counselor for any assistance at 810-406-4246 ext 4955.
